Western Cape Letter to Climbers and Parents

30th January 2015

Dear Parents and Climbers

Western Cape Climbing (WCC) is a Non-Profit Organisation created principally to:

  • Develop the sport of Competition Climbing within Western Cape
  • Organise and administer the sport of Competition Climbing within Western Cape
  • Organise, supervise and run competition climbing events in Western Cape for the purpose of the selection of a provincial team to compete in National events organised or endorsed by the South African National Climbing Federation (SANCF)
  • Along with the appropriate body, make suitable recommendations for the issuance of Western Cape colours, or any other form of climber recognition.

Additionally WCC aims to:

  • Support, encourage and further develop Competition Climbing in Western Cape and on a national level
  • Eliminate as far as possible all forms of racial discrimination in Competition Climbing
  • Provide technical education to Western Cape climbers where appropriate
  • Co-operate with any bodies regarding the promotion and public recognition of Competition Climbing in Western Cape and on a national level
  • Along with the appropriate body, make suitable recommendations for the issuance of Western Cape colours, or any other form of climber recognition
  • Promote a drug free Competition Climbing sport
  • Work with individuals and organisations to raise funds for the pursuance of the objectives contained in the WCC Constitution
  • Liaise and affiliate with other compatible organisations
  • Initiate effective succession planning to strengthen the leadership within Western Cape.

WCC is affiliated to the South African National Climbing Federation (SANCF), which is the official representative of the continent of Africa. SANCF is recognised by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). The IFSC is recognised by the I.O.C (International Olympic Committee). SANCF is now proudly affiliated to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) which means that Competition Climbing is recognised as an international competitive sport in South Africa and climbers who compete can be awarded National Protea colours. This is fantastic news for all our climbers as the opportunity to represent one’s country at the highest level has now become reality!

WCC is committed to offering coaching that is of the highest standard, to prepare climbers for competition. Our coaches complete coaching courses that are run by and recognised by the SANCF as well as WCC and work together to implement training programs that are specific to the level that the climbers require. We would like to encourage all parents whose children climb, are interested in competition climbing specifically and whose goal it is to earn their National colours and compete internationally, to register their children with the WCC and the SANCF.

We welcome the next generation of climbers and hope to see them live their greatest climbing dreams.
